History watch: Miles really loves the Civil War. He was like a kid in a candy store today at the site of the bloodiest day in American history.
Amazing Americana sight of the day: As we walked up to the visitors' center at Antietam today, we were greeted by a bright red truck with a number of fascinating bumper stickers on it.My favorite part is the Jesus fish right above the 'Al Qaeda Hunting Club' sticker. This sure is a different part of the country. Something tells me this guy won't be voting for Barack Obama in the November election.
Random Valpo Sighting: We left the Antietam visitors' center, maps in hand, prepared to drive through the battlefield. As we pull out of the parking lot, Miles shouts, 'Hey, I think that was Ray back there!' Sure enough, our buddy Ray Acevedo had just pulled into the parking lot. He takes photos for the VU athletic department and is always friendly to us student broadcasters and reporters in the media room.
Ray said he makes a trek with a friend of his to a historical site every year and was spending a view days at Antietam. The world is often a very small place -- 800 miles from home and we run into a familiar face in the parking lot of an isolated Civil War battlefield. Didn't see that one coming.
